Champion dog hurt in armed drug raid
With four stitches in her nose, champion police dog Ila is recovering from being slashed with a knife while on duty.
The 5-year-old German Shepherd, who won the last national police dog championship, had surgery after being attacked during an early morning raid with the armed offenders squad in Porirua near Wellington.




The German Shepherd Dog, also known as Alsatian is a breed of large-sized dog that originated in Germany which dates back in 1899. Developed originally for herding sheep but because of their strength, intelligence and abilities in obedience training, today they are often employed as police war dogs.
