The German Shepherd Dog, also known as Alsatian is a breed of large-sized dog that originated in Germany which dates back in 1899. Developed originally for herding sheep but because of their strength, intelligence and abilities in obedience training, today they are often employed as police war dogs.
Mayor Bieri proclaims March 13 K9 Veterans Day
Frank Yevchek and his German Shepherd “Niki” were present at the Feb. 17 Township of West Milford Council meeting to receive a proclamation from Mayor Bettina Bieri designating March 13 as K9 Veterans Day.
Military Working Dogs will be honored on March 13 on K9 Veterans Day. Mayor Bettina Bieri is seen with Frank Yevchek and ‘Niki’ at the Feb. 17 Township of West Milford Council meeting as she proclaims the special day for the MWDs.
Yevchek said “Niki” was instrumental in the start of his Military Working Dogs (MWD) program.
