Ailing, rescued German shepherd improves

A young German shepherd named Gustav continues to show signs of improvement after several harrowing weeks in critical condition.

The malnourished dog was pulled from the Baldwin Park Animal Shelter in Los Angeles on Dec. 30. At the time he suffered from an extensive case of demodectic mange and related skin infections.

Dogs returned to owners

Someone broke into Navor Garcia’s auto repair shop two months ago and stole his Doberman Pinscher, Rudy.

Rudy was the face-licking type, and Garcia’s 10-year-old daughter, Debra, missed him badly.

Hope was fading until a call came Monday to the Cicero family: Rudy had been found.

But there was more.

Another dog, a German Shepherd named Tarzan that was stolen a year ago from an enclosed yard next to Garcia’s auto shop in the 4100 block of West Ogden, also had been found.

Valda the German Shepherd puppy begins police dog training at RAF Linton-on-Ouse

A FOUR-legged crimefighter has started training in York to be part of a national Ministry of Defence security team.

Valda, a German Shepherd puppy, is based with the MoD police operational support unit at RAF Linton-on-Ouse and is taking her first steps towards becoming a fully- operational police dog.

While training on the base, she will work with her handler, PC Phil Bieda, and get used to meeting new people, travelling to unfamiliar places, and experiencing new and noisy environments.
