Man accused in K-9 killing chase bonds out

An Odessa man bonded out of jail Sunday after, authorities said, he led a deputy on a chase that resulted in a K-9 unit’s death.

Kazoe, a 4–year-old male German Shepherd, died after he was struck by an unknown vehicle while in pursuit of a man evading arrest, an Ector County Sheriff’s Office news release stated.

Eighteen-year-old Angel Herrera Morales, 804 W. 19th St., was released Sunday morning on bonds totaling $21,000 from the Ector County Detention Center and was charged with second-degree felony interference of a police service animal (with death).

Bohol anti-drug drive finds ‘sniffing’ allies

TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol, Dec. 18 (PIA) -– The Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Council [PADAC] in Bohol has found two more allies in its fight against drug abuse in the province— two sniffing German Shepherd dogs.

Bohol officials showed Wednesday one of the two drug-sniffing German Shepherd dogs and their handlers to add brute muscle and beastly instinct to to track and help control country’s porous coastlines.

The presentation came after President Benigno S. Aquino III admitted the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) has only 16 detection dogs distributed throughout the country’s 16 regions.

Many breeds of pure love on display at Crown Classic Dog Shows at Cleveland’s I-X Center

CLEVELAND, Ohio — While reasons vary for attending the four-day Crown Classic Dog Shows that end today at the International Exposition Center, everyone who comes has one thing in common — the love of dogs.

And each day, there are about 2,000 dogs to love, all purebred but of more sizes, shapes and breed names than anyone can imagine. Owners and handlers are just as diverse geographically, because they come from all over the country, said show manager Bill Russett.

Many of the dogs compete just for best of breed and best of show honors, which bestow points that can lead to a national championship. Because the goal of these competitions is to evaluate the dogs as potential breeding stock, they cannot be spayed or neutered, said Vikky Gaston of Weirton, W.Va., who was showing a whippet.

Officers are asking for dogs aged between 12 and 18 months to join Kent Police

Kent Police is recruiting German Shepherd dogs to be specially trained to fight crime across the county.

Officers are asking for dogs aged between 12 and 18 months to join the service.

Candidates will receive first class training in areas such as tracking, searching and looking for missing people.

Paws 2 Help hoping to match large donation

WEST PALM BEACH, FLA –  A few weeks ago Crazy, a five year old German shepherd, was shot by a neighbor.

Crazy’s family did what it could, but without a large amount of cash, Crazy’s prognosis was grim.

“Every person that we called, for animal rescue, if you don’t have the money, you’re going to have to put it to sleep.  I don’t want to do that.  I’ve had that dog since she was a baby.  I don’t want to do that to my dog ,” said Pablo Hernandez, Crazy’s owner.

Two dogs added to canine unit

The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office has added two new four-legged members to its canine force.

Fly, a 3-year-old German shepherd, and Baros, a 2-year-old Belgian malinois, were acquired in August from Vohne Liche Kennels in Denver, Ind.

“These are replacement dogs,” said sheriff’s Capt. Johnny Whittle.

Two dogs found dead by train tracks are latest of seven mysterious deaths since August

Two dogs found mutilated along some train tracks in northern California bring the number of mysterious dog deaths in the area to at least seven — by some reports nine — since August.

Foul play is considered a possibility the newest cases, involving a Labrador retriever and a German shepherd, because of the way the dog’s carcasses were positioned, authorities said. At least one of them had been decapitated, according to news reports.
